Dr. Laura Reviews The One-Armed Cook on her national radio show
“Brilliantly helpful! Fabulously useful! Get a ton of these books and give them away to everybody you know who is a new or newish mother.”
– Dr. Laura Schlessinger
The One-Armed Cook provides the inspiration and the game plan to help parents meet the challenge of feeding their families while juggling the demands of busy lifestyles. Most of the more than 120 kid-friendly and healthful recipes can be prepared, start-to-finish, in 30 minutes or less — even with a baby on your hip!
Cynthia is a former television cooking show producer and consultant for world-renowned chefs and authors. Catherine is a registered nurse and former childbirth educator who loves to cook.
We both traded in our professional hats to be stay-at-home moms, and aspired to help other parents like ourselves. Together we wrote The One-Armed Cook, which uniquely combines our two areas of professional and marketing expertise — cooking and parenting education — with our two different voices of motherhood experience in the kitchen. The book is a union of our true loves: family and food.
Our work is showcased in national magazines, on television and radio, and through numerous on-line channels. Our personal appearances at forums around the country have allowed us to stay connected with real parents, truly the best part of our job!
Pat Conroy said, “My mother raised us on Dr. Spock and Betty Crocker. I am grateful that my grandchildren will grow up on the culinary magic of Cynthia and Catherine.”
Cassandra King said “Cynthia and Catherine are masters at using humor and first-person anecdotes to put parents at ease.”
Terry Kay said, “Anyone who finds joy in the kitchen will discover a new path from recipe to table, and they will love the journey. It’s superbly done.”
Anne Rivers Siddons said, “Like M.F.K. Fischer and Elizabeth David before them, Cynthia and Catherine know that food, family, and friends are the very stuff of life, and should be celebrated as such. More than a cookbook for mothers with small children, this is a love story about nurturing all aspects of life, and I think it is wonderful.”
